Beauty Treatments Done at Home to Achieve Spa-like Results
You don't have to spend big bucks at exclusive salons to get a polished, finished look. You can do it at home, inexpensively, using common items found in your kitchen and home. Instead of going to the dermatologist for costly glycolic peels, exfoliate and do your own glycolic peel at home. Cornmeal or sugar patted on the face and gently rubbed with warm water in circles on your face creates smooth, exfoliated skin. An olive oil sugar scrub over the body after a hot shower exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. Simply rub small amounts of olive oil over your skin and rub skin in small circles with sugar. Rinse your body when finished. You will have baby soft skin. Instead of going to the dermatologist for a glycolic peel, try L'Oreal ReNoviste Anti-Aging Glycolic Peel Kit (around $25.00) at home.
If you have oily skin, treat yourself to a facial at home. Boil water on the stove, remove, and steam your face with a towel draped over your head. Mix several tablespoons of oatmeal with enough water to make it spreadable. Spread this oatmeal mask on your face and neck and rest with feet up for 20 minutes. Rinse off the oatmeal mask. Your skin will feel squeaky clean and smooth. Dry skin can be effectively moisturized with a light application of olive oil. Rub it lightly over your dry skin before bed and snuggle into bed in cotton pajamas. Your skin will be baby soft by morning. Use the olive oil to remove makeup easily also. Olive oil works better and is more easily absorbed by the skin than baby oil. For those of you that have cracked, painful heels on your feet, try smoothing Vicks VapoRub over the affected area and slip on cotton socks each night. After about two weeks of this treatment, the camphor in the VapoRub will have healed your painful, cracked heels.
Milk baths have long been known to soften the skin. Add 3/4 cup of dry milk powder to your bath water and enjoy the results. To keep your facial skin clear, once a week massage it with yogurt or honey, and rinse well. Both yogurt and honey are antibacterial in nature. Yogurt also exfoliates and removes dead skin cells. If you are beginning to see the signs of aging in the form of dark pigment spots on your face and the backs of your hands, rub the darker areas with lemon juice to bleach them.
Instead of using a commercially available hot oil treatment, try rubbing a little olive oil into the ends of your hair. Rinse well and hair ends will be soft. Commercially available hair rinses can cause buildup on the hair shaft. The best way to achieve a headfull of clean, shiny hair full of bounce and body is to rinse your hair with 1/4 cup of vinegar mixed into 3/4 cup of warm water. Your hair will be squeaky clean and shiny.
Try these frugal beauty tricks at home and you can achieve the same results as expensive salon treatments.
