Emme
is the epitamy of the self made woman. She is the famous supermodel,
television host, best selling author, lecturer and clothing
designer. Twice she was selected by People magazine as one
of the "50 Most Beautiful People". She has been
honored by Glamour Magazine as "Woman of the Year".
Ladies Home Journal chose her as one of the "Most Fascinating
Women of the Year", and also "Most Important Women
in America".
Emme was host of "Fashion Emergency" which is still broadcasted
by E! Entertainment Television and the Style Network. Emme
was the first plus size model ever awarded a cosmetics contract
when she was signed by Revlon.
Emme has proven both here and abroad that beauty comes in
all shapes and sizes by publishing her first book TRUE BEAUTY
(Putnam/Perigee) in 1997. Emme's second book, LIFE'S LITTLE
EMERGENCIES (St. Martin's Press) was published in 2003.
Emme is a strong advocate for personal physical fitness for
all ages. She works tirelessly at increasing awareness and
fundraising to treat eating and body image disorders. She
was the first model to speak about these issues before a Congressional
Subcommittee. Says Emme, "We live in a society that is
based upon the attainment of unrealistic beauty. I want women
to know their self esteem is not contingent upon their dress
size." Emme is the Chair Ambassador of the National Eating
Disorders Association (NEDA). She is also the National Ambassador
for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Emme has lectured at both Yale and Harvard as well at high
schools across the nation about body image and self-esteem.
She is a graduate of Syracuse University, and holds a degree
in Speech Communications. Emme speaks for all women when she
states "Did you know that 67% of American women are a
size 12 and over?"
Emme was Born in New York City and was raised in Saudi Arabia.
She returned to the US as a teenager. Highly accomplished
in the sport of water crew, Syracuse University awarded her
a full athletic scholarship for the sport. Emme is a member
of the Syracuse University Orange Plus Hall of Fame. Emme
was invited to the US Olympic Team trials, as well as several
US National Team trials for the sport of water crew and rowing.
After graduation for Syracuse University, Emme spent two years
in Flagstaff, Arizona where she was a morning anchor for the
NBC affiliate station KNAZ-TV.
